Arranging a funeral is a stressful time and when doing it for the first time you will surely have a lot of questons to ask, we’re here to help make this as easy as possible.

What should I do when someone dies?

The first course of action to take when someone dies is to obtain a Medical Certificate stating the cause of death from a doctor. You must use this certificate to register the death at a local register office within five days unless the death has been referred to a coroner. The Wirral register office is Birkenhead Town Hall, you can find it’s opening hours and contact details by clicking here.

Once you have registered the death you will then need to decide on a funeral director who will make all the arrangements for the funeral. After the funeral, The Registration Office will issue you a Certificate for Burial or Cremation as well as the Death Certificate.

How are funerals arranged?
